Wayne County is looking for a Director of Emergency Management

The Wayne County Commissioners are currently accepting employment applications for the full-time position Emergency Management Director.
DUTIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
- COUNTY DISASTER AND PREPAREDNESS: Develop/maintain safety programs and continuity of operations plan for all Wayne County government offices; develop/maintain recovery planning to restore the community to pre-disaster conditions; develop/plan/direct/evaluate emergency exercise programs and recovery activities, including school emergency exercises; identify safety issues around the county; promote public awareness of Wayne County chemical facilities; develop/maintain/update all-hazards emergency operation plan for the community; facilitate training programs on public safety, emergency preparedness, homeland security, HAZMAT response and other related topics for staff and public safety forces.
- AGENCY COORDINATION: Facilitate public safety radio operators’ group; maintain licensing of radio systems/towers/buildings related to radio communications; membership in Wayne County 911 Planning Committee; ensure availability and function of Emergency Operations Center; maintain county emergency notification system; make presentations to expand awareness and education regarding the agency and its activities.
- TRAINING AND EXERCISE: Conduct research and keep apprised of laws and regulations related to emergency management, homeland security and SARA Title III; conduct exercises to test emergency plans for critical facilities.
- GRANTS: Seek and apply for federal, state and other privately funded grants.
- SITUATIONAL AWARENESS AND INFORMATION SHARING: Monitor national, state and local news, weather incidents and other events and disseminate any appropriate information to local agencies and response partners; participate in state briefings; identify gaps or any need to mitigate potential life/safety issues.
- EMERGENCY RESPONSE: Manage, coordinate, facilitate and maintain the Emergency Operations Center to provide direction and control during large scale incidents; respond to incidents such as HAZMAT spills and other environmental hazard releases by coordinating response and clean-up efforts; perform damage assessments; maintain Emergency Alert System.
- LOCAL EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT PROGRAM: Supervision of agency; review/develop/implement policies and procedures; prepare/administer budget.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Emergency Management, Public Administration, or equivalent experience, plus five (5) years administrative and operational experience in emergency management, public safety or equivalent preferred.
